Run Your Family's Hanout

Step into your grandfather's shop and keep it alive — serve customers, manage stock, and grow the family business one sale at a time.

01

Behind the Counter

  • Serve, Count, Cash In

Take orders, hand out the right items, and count exact change at the register — miss twice and the customer walks.

  • Every Customer Has a Story

Kids, grandmas, and regulars each shop differently — with their own favorites, patience, and moods you can see on their face.

  • Manage Your Stock

Order from the wholesaler, watch shelves empty out, and keep your bestsellers in stock before customers show up.

  • Keep the Family Ledger

Trust regulars with credit in the old red carnet — some pay you back with interest, others never come back.

02

Grow the Business

  • Level Up Your Shop Rep

Earn XP with every sale, unlock new products, and watch your hanout grow from a small stall into a neighborhood legend.

  • Fill Your Price Notebook

Track every product you've unlocked in a hand-written notebook — locked items stay hidden as silhouettes until you earn them.

  • Upgrade Your Shop

Spend your earnings on real upgrades — a bigger fridge, a radio, a lantern, a Persian carpet — each one changing how your shop looks and plays.

  • Travel From Marrakech to Fes

Progress through a hand-crafted map of Moroccan cities, each with its own look, customers, and challenges — more cities on the way.

03

A Shop That Lives

  • Every Day Is Different

Rush hours, weddings, heatwaves, wholesale sales — random events shake up your day and test how you run the shop.

  • A Shop That Breathes

Watch sunlight shift into evening glow, the ceiling fan spin, the fridge hum, and the TV flicker — your hanout feels alive all day long.

  • Tune Into Shop Radio

Old-school Moroccan radio plays ads, music, and the call to prayer through the day — buy the radio upgrade to bring it to life.

  • Characters That Come Alive

The shopkeeper and every customer move with hand-crafted pixel animations — idle loops, impatient shuffles, and storm-offs when they've had enough.

  • Play in Darija or EnglishSwitch languages anytime — with a custom Arabic pixel font built for the game.

A Look Inside

From the opening bell to closing the till — here's a shop day at a glance.

  1. The title screen: a shelf-lined shop interior seen from the doorway, the shopkeeper waving from behind his counter, and the HANOUT sign hanging under a striped awning, with a START button and a row of product icons below.

01 Your grandfather's hanout, reborn in pixels

  2. The Marrakech city map: a cobbled path climbing from the Mellah through Mouassine and the Kasbah, each stop marked with stars earned, ending on a skyline of the city's ramparts and palm trees above a PLAY button.

02 Walk the alleys from the Mellah to the Kasbah

  3. Serving customers: three shoppers waiting at the counter with their mint tea and bread orders shown above the shopkeeper's greeting bubble, a day clock in the corner, and the coin, level and day counters along the bottom.

03 Behind the counter, every customer has a story

  4. The register: a customer's receipt showing the total owed, what they paid and the change due, with a number pad below to key in the exact amount.

04 Count the change right, keep them coming back

  5. A wedding order event: a pop-up announcing a VIP customer arriving with a big order for sugar, tea and a carpet, offering bonus pay and double XP for serving it all.

05 A wedding order walks in — serve it all for double XP

  6. The upgrades screen: a shop radio already owned, plus an awning, a TV, a tip jar, a scale, a fan and shelving, each priced in coins and listed with the bonus it gives the shop.

06 Upgrade your hanout, one gadget at a time

  7. The wholesaler: khobz, mint tea, a sugar loaf, milk, phone credit and a baguette, each showing how many are left in stock and buttons to buy one or five more.

07 Stock up before the shelves go empty

  8. The settings screen: toggles for sounds, music and the radio, a language switcher, and a quit button, overlaid on the shop interior.

08 Play your way — sound, music, language

  9. The family ledger: a list of regulars and how much credit they owe — Nadia, Lalla Fatima and Moha with balances in dirhams, one customer flagged with no credit — and a running total owed at the bottom.

09 Some customers pay later — keep the carnet

  10. A teapot pouring mint tea into a glass inside a spotlight circle, captioned "Have a cup of mint tea", with customers waiting below.

Why a Corner Shop?

Every Moroccan neighbourhood has one: the hanout on the corner that's open before you are and closed after everyone else. Hanout is a small, warm game about running one — built pixel by pixel, sale by sale.

You take over your grandfather's stall in Marrakech's Mellah with a handful of products and a short fuse of patience from your customers. Level up, unlock the catalogue, upgrade the shop, and take it on the road to Fes.

Open the Shop

Hanout is in active development — Chapter 1 (Marrakech) and Chapter 2 (Fes) are playable now, with more cities on the way.
